This thing is a bit small for large hands and the controls are not 'finger friendly". The camera works OK as I didn't intend it to be anything more than just casual use. Battery life is good- will easily go all day with normal use. image quality is acceptable and in most instances good. Sound is weak but that is to be expected with this type of unit. The still camera mode is probably the weakest as it takes a long time to take a picture and at times I can't tell if its in the right mode yet to take a picture. The biggest plus is the overall size and weatherproof-ness. A small camera bag attached to a your belt doesn't feel like an anchor by the end ot the day and will hold the camera,extra SD cards and a battery. The indoors natural light pictures and video this takes is unacceptably poor so I returned it. If this is used outdoors only, or with flash indoors, it takes fairly good pictures and nice video. For this price you might look elsewhere like the Canon SX110 series.

First of all I own Canon cameras (Canon SD1000 and Canon SX110) that take better photo's and videos than this does but the things this combo does is quite good. I like the pistol grip style, the nice large screen and the audio is excellent. I was hoping it was a little thinner as it puts a bulge in your pocket, any thicker and it would be a deal breaker. It is something you would not mind having on you most of the time at a place like Disneyland. It feels well constructed and I like the lens being recessed into the body as it won't get finger prints easily. As others have said it does not take good pictures or video in poorly lit areas but in good light it is good on pictures and video. It has some nice features most point and shoot cameras don't and for the money its worth it. It's place in this world is for someone that wants spur of the moment decent video's and pictures mainly to send over the internet to family and friends. Its not the camera you want for once in a lifetime photos or videos. Consider this a second camera or video camera as its not a DSLR or a $350 48x optical zoom camcorder and it doesn't pretend to be. I just received this cam from Conns for $60 bucks ($50 + tax + shipping). Thought I repped the deal, but totally got wrong this time.
Sony really packaged this very well to look great. They are selling a piece of junk in a neat package. That is all... what a shame!!. Guys, don't just take the brand name for granted.
I am an engineer and I do a lot of research before buying products... especially electronics. Unfortunately..I quickly jumped on this ...seeing the price and brand name.
PROS: Looks great. That is about it.
CONS:
Video quality is horrible. Grainy on a SD television. Don't even think about putting this on a HDTV.. because HDTV extrapolate the SD format and the video looks even worse.
Low light sensitivity.... all you see is pure black. No nothing.
I tried Web Cam feature after struggling with drivers...finally I got it working with YAHOO...and all I am seeing is black except the light that is glowing bright.
Still picture... Any dumb camera with 5MP resolution can take better picture than this.
Storage... you have to buy expensive memory stick duo's.
I can't believe SONY is selling this kind of stuff only but ..to ruin their brand value.
Stay away from this Net Cam!!
If some body says this cam is great...they probably do not aware ..how wonderfully the technology has advanced in this area...or never tried other cams and compare with them (like FLIP HD or Creative HD cams for $130).
How about some decent CAMS from SANYO, SAMSUNG or CANON??

I wanted a helmet camera that would serve many purposes, mainly to take hunting video during bowhunting season for elk here in Colorado. Then to use for ski season as an additional video source for our OldFartz ski group.
I was concerned about angle of view, with the wide angle models giving too much scenery and not much definition on the animal that is the focus of the hunt. That is why I chose the MotorSports model with std lens. It has worked out fine on 4 trips so far.
I used the flat vertical mount bracket to attach to my upper bow limbs above the sight. The Hero mounting options are truly amazing. I will put a curved bracket on my ski helmet, and then may also put one on my bike helmet. I also will use it with various mounts on 2 vintage race cars in the future. May even try it for vacation scenic photos by using the suction windshield mount.
Resolution with the 5 MP still photo is adequate for web sharing and I'm getting lots of comments on the quality so that is working too. Flexibility of photo options including timer is very good.
I have imported and edited some of the video clips in iMovie on the Mac with good results. Only problem so far has been getting adequate sound. The tech support site at Go Pro suggested taking out the waterproof seal gasket for better sound penetration to the internal mic. That has helped.
One final negative is that there is no date and time stamp feature....... a compromise that will be fixed in future models I'm told.
